Seriously…Optimize for mobile searches improve local rankings?!
When you create and optimize a website for local search terms it is usually described as local Seo . Optimizing for local Seo terms can be a great source of traffic as there can be a rather surprisingly high number of searches. In fact Google actually tells us that 1 out of every 5 searches has local intent. So by only aiming for national or general keywords businesses can miss out on a great opportunity. Now local search is being enhanced further by the mobile web design. The sheer practicality and portable factor of smart phones has made a big impact on the way each of us search the internet and especially locally. Google data tells us that the percentage of searches with local intent on a mobile device can be as high as 40%. Here are some more facts taken from Google’s Think Insights Databoard: 94% of smartphone users have searched for local information and 84% have taken action as a result 57% of smartphone users look for local businesses and information once a week 25% of smartphone users look for local businesses or information daily Of smartphone users who searched for local info: 65% visited the business they looked up 47% looked up a business on a map or searched for directions 24% of smartphone searchers told others about the business they searched 29% made a in-store purchase It’s worth noting as well that the smaller the size of the smart phone screen, the results which rank higher in the mobile ranking will tend to get more clicks then they would on a desktop device. So really all these facts and observations show one thing. That website owners and SEOs need to optimize for local mobile search but optimizing both for local and mobile separately. The mobile friendly pages targeted to local mobile searches enabling you to take advantage of mobile traffic and apps such as Facebook’s mobile app.
